Gerson: Hi there, Gerson here from Habi Education Lab. So a few days ago, I started to teach in-person classes again. Here’s what my classroom sounded like.
[Classroom sounds, voices of students]
Gerson: It felt so great to hear my students thinking and engaging and being active, and laughing.
Just like me, more and more people are moving back to in-person gatherings. Schools are bustling with students and teachers, workplaces are doing face-to-face trainings, and hotels and convention centers are booked with events again. A lot of people are excited to “go back to normal”.
But wait – what if we don’t want to go back to normal?
You see, when we transitioned to remote learning, we exposed a lot of invisible problems: Exclusion. Communication gaps. Impersonal learning experiences. Overloaded and irrelevant content. Loneliness. Inhumane practices. What if we didn’t go back to normal and instead found a better way forward?

Gerson: In this season of Habi Hour, key lessons from the pandemic about good teaching and learning. Each episode we’ll dive deep into a design principle. Describing what learning experiences should be: Clear, or Malinaw.
Kaye: The truth is what’s clear to me isn’t necessarily clear to another person.
Gerson: Inclusive, or Kasya Lahat.
Jichelle: I don’t want the children to feel out of place when they see the videos. I want them to feel that they belong and they are seen.
Gerson: Human, or Makatao
Bianca: We focus on each other’s growth as professionals and as people. As opposed to just thinking about outputs and numbers.
Gerson: And Inspiring, or Nagsusulong.
Chess: There was laughter in the room for a good 30 seconds and constant nodding from everyone.
