Using the MISMO framework to design videos
During the content development phase of the project, we used MISMO with Globe's subject matter experts to harness their familiarity with the learners, or the consumers of the videos. We were able to answer questions such as:
- What makes a good online video?
- What's the main goal of the series?
- Who are the learners?
- How will the learners interact with the material?
Good video design
As the sales team will individually access the videos in Globe's learning management system, we needed to make sure that they would be able to learn from the videos without the need for additional intervention. We anchored our videos in frameworks such as Mayer's Cognitive Principles of Multimedia. This allowed us to follow certain rules when creating the videos such as chunking learning into similar themes or topics, joining related texts and images together, and ensuring that the visuals and audio are in synch.
We also included reflection prompts at the end and exercises that the learners could do to practice what they learned from the videos.
