GERSON: Change is constant. Change is inevitable. How many times have we heard these phrases? As cliche as these sound, the past year in the pandemic proved these statements true by catapulting us into a lot of changes, and challenges.
BERNICE: I learned from that experience that it’s not always going to go according to plan, and it will not go according to plan. Or there will be some difficulty to trust the process when the process isn’t clear.
JOVI: I used to to have this “perfect planning, perfect execution” mentality and nagiging sobrang stressful for me when things or events do not fully align with how I envisioned them.
GERSON: As Learning Experience Designers who thrive in creative problem-solving, we, too, took some time to let the changes simmer – resistant at the start, in denial of how the pandemic is affecting our personal lives and the nature of our work. But the sooner we stopped resisting change and the sooner we made space for it, the sooner we found ourselves learning, adapting, evolving.
JOVI: I think as a perfectionist, the idea of being open to the possibility of iteration and pivoting as part of an outcome was a big basag moment for me in Habi. I learned to embrace working with and around uncertainty a lot more through my work in Habi.
GERSON: What if we look at change like a new friendship, a place you’ve never been before, or a book you’re just about to read? Unfamiliar at first, but could surprise you and blossom into something beautiful. We cannot control change, just like the same way that we cannot control a lot of things, and that’s okay. We, however, can design around change.
KAYE: I don’t think I’ve ever worked in a place that encourages play and experimentation in the way that Habi does
CHESS: Very flexible pagdating sa work hours, -may freedom yung employees on when they work, puwede sa umaga, sa gabi puwede sa weekend, it’s really up to you basta macommunicate sa team.
CELINA: There’s this segment where Gerson goes, para siyang, ano ‘yun, huwes ba ‘yung tawag? Okay, what are your proposals, gan’yan. And then everyone, literally everyone, can propose something and we’ll discuss it as a team.
GERSON: And you know what’s great about change? Since it’s universal, every single person around us has experiences with it plus rich stories to share.
So in Season 3 of Habi Hour, we invite you to listen and learn from our friends, partners, allies, and our communities. These stories form our collective experiences with change, focusing on how different learning environments like workplaces, museums, outdoor spaces, fitness programs, leisure learning, and even activism have transformed.
Change is constant. Change is inevitable. And by appreciating what we’ve learned and how we’ve grown, maybe the next time we’re face to face with change, we can approach it with equal amounts of optimism, curiosity, and confidence.
Welcome to Habi Hour Season 3: Learning from Change.
